Problems with inherent symmetries can often be approached with methods from topology. Standard examples include the Ham Sandwich theorem and its relatives, inscribing squares or rectangles in curves, and understanding intersection patterns of convex sets in Euclidean space. I will explain how topology helps to solve combinatorial problems and survey some of the highlights.
