Finite dimensional representations of the classical groups play an important role in combinatorics. Infinite dimensional representations play a role in Mathematical Physics, Analysis and Number Theory. These are not the only applications; every time a problem exhibits symmetry, a group and its representation theory plays a role. In this talk I will describe the basics of representation theory, and the beginnings of some of the aforementioned applications."
There will be Indian food from Sangam's.
