For nearly two centuries, countless analysts have dedicated their lives to a program which, broadly speaking, seeks to understand the ways in which the Fourier series of a given function captures the properties of said function. Moreover, the problem of understanding the boundary values of holomorphic functions has also played an important role in analysis. In this talk, we will explore a striking connection between these two ostensibly unrelated pieces of mathematics via the Hilbert transform.
