Almost thirty years ago a small team of OR practitioners in IBM was asked to address a critical issue plaguing the production of personal computer. The asset created in that project has evolved and expanded, and has been used by several organizations to address a wide range of resource allocation problems. In this talk I will address the motivation, the initial computational challenges, selected applications, and future opportunities.
