This talk will discuss the question: To what extent are groups determined by their finite quotients? We will discuss examples of both positive and negative answers, as well as discussing how recent developments in understanding the fundamental groups of compact 3-manifolds (due to Agol and Wise) impacts on the question for the fundamental groups of certain hyperbolic 3-manifolds.
