Knutson-Tao puzzles

Tuesday, March 17, 2015 - 4:30pm
Malott 406

Knutson-Tao puzzles are large triangles with the sides labelled by strings of $0$s and $1$s which are then filled in with small triangles and rhombi. We will show that one can use the filling in of the puzzles to define the multiplication in a (commutative, associative) ring. We will then talk a bit about the Grassmannian and how it's related to the puzzles, which tells one can use geometry to understand more about the puzzles.

Refreshments will be served in the lounge at 4:00 PM.
