Martin Kassabov and other Cornellians speaking at 2014 International Congress of Mathematicians

From the ICM website: “The International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) is the largest international congress in the mathematics community. It is held once every four years under the auspices of the International Mathematical Union (IMU). The Fields Medals, the Nevanlinna Prize, the Gauss Prize, and the Chern Medal are awarded during the opening ceremony on the first day of the congress. Each congress is memorialized by printed Proceedings recording academic papers based on invited talks intended to reflect the current state of the science.”

The 2014 International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) will be held in Seoul, Korea this summer. Cornell faculty Martin Kassabov (Mathematics) and Adrian Lewis (ORIE) will speak at the congress. Martin Kassabov will address a joint session in Algebra and Lie Theory and Generalizations. Adrian Lewis will present in the Control Theory and Optimization session.

Two former Cornell mathematics graduate students have also been invited to speak. Fernando Codá Marques PhD ’04, student of José Escobar, will be a plenary speaker. Antonio Montalban MSCS‘05, PhD in Mathematics ’05, and student of Richard Shore, is an invited speaker in Logic and Foundations.

Former mathematics undergraduate students Mark Gross ’84 and Benson Farb ’89 will be giving talks in Algebraic and Complex Geometry and Topology, respectively.

Former H.C. Wang Assistant Professors Peter Topping and Daniel Wise will both be giving talks in Geometry.
