Infinite type flat surfaces have been the focus of a great deal of recent mathematical activity. Along with Rodrigo Trevino, I have been working to develop a "dictionary" between topics in the field of flat surfaces and classical ergodic theory. This talk will explore connections between translation flows on flat surfaces, adic transformations defined on Bratteli diagrams, and cutting and stacking transformations.
